About Golden Rock Inn, Nevis

Golden Rock has a 200 year history dating back to when it was a sugar estate in the 19th century. In recent times this wonderful and unique property has been lovingly restored through the watchful eyes of New York artists Helen and Brice Marden and today it provides an absolute haven of tranquility in the most wonderful setting.

Set on 100 acres stretching up the slopes of Nevis Peak, this boutique property is surrounded by lush tropical gardens which have been designed by the aptly named American landscape architect Ramond Jungles, with guidance from the Bridens. The grounds offer endless walks and rambles with just the sound of birdsong  and rustling bamboo for company. There are countless spots to sit and relax – many with views of the Caribbean sea and other islands beyond. Cooling trade breezes are usually in evidence and the whole estate has an atmosphere of peace and elegance..

Golden Rock Inn has eleven guest rooms, including the unique Sugar Mill Suite. The refurbished rooms have bleached wood floors, colonial antiques joined with modern, colorful accents and Morrocan floor rugs.  Sumptuous linen and bedding assures peacful sleep in comfy beds.

The rooms are in fact mostly small cottages – either detached or duplex-style – and each has a private terrace for just sitting and relaxing or reading to the sound of tropical birdsong. The cottages sleep 2 or 4 people each.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served alfresco – either on the dining decks overlooking the ocean or within more private setrtings in the gardens. There is a strong emphasis on serving as much local produce as possible – local fishermen provide fish and lobster, neighbouring farmers supply fresh fruits and vegetables, and the bartender mixes cocktails using local spices and of course Caribbean rum.

Plush linens are accentuated with down pillows and matelasse coverlets.

Golf, tennis, hiking, exploring beaches, nature tours with local guides, horseback riding, mountain bicycling, sailing, scuba and snorkeling trips are all available on island and easily scheduled through the office.  However some guests seldom leave the Inn – preferring to relax by the  spring fed pool, explore meandering garden paths, watch the green vervet monkeys playng in the trees, read a book, experience an in-room massage……… You can do as much or as little as you like.

Golden Rock Inn is a very, very special place indeed…….
