Caribbean island of Nevis - Queen of the Caribees
The island of Nevis lies in the north of the Leeward Islands in the north-east of
the Caribbean. Just 35 square miles in size and with a population of only 10,000
Nevis is just two miles to the south of its big sister St. Kitts. Lush rainforest
surrounds the towering Nevis Peak in the centre of the island and this extinct
volcano dominates the lush tropical rainforest which surround it. Christopher
Columbus saw the mountain with the top covered in white cloud and thought it
looked like snow (nieve) hence the name Nevis. The slopes and plains
around the mountain are full of dramatic vegetation, flora and fauna, whilst
the island’s shores are fringed by some of the most beautiful beaches in the
Caribbean.
Nevis is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the land and the sea but it also offers visitors many opportunities for activities - horse riding, hiking, cycling, golf as well as a host of watersports.
This tiny unspoilt island has so much to offer but perhaps most important is the gentle warmth of the friendly islanders who make all visitors feel like special guests.
