Holidays in St. Kitts - activities and sports
Scuba diving
The
crystal-clear, calm waters and pristine coral reefs of St. Kitts offer first-class
diving for both novices and the more experienced. There are more than 50 sites
off the island, including Coconut Tree Reef, which plunges to nearly 200 ft,
The Devil's Caves, where there are coral grottoes to explore, and Monkey Shoals,
which is home to lobster, rays, lizard fish and the occasional nurse shark.
For the more adventurous, there are about 400 shipwrecks to be found on the
ocean floor. There are a number of dive centres in St. Kitts and we can help
you with arrangements for scuba diving as part of your holiday.
Water sports
If you would rather stay on the surface, then the clear blue waters of St. Kitts are perfect for a wide variety of water sports, including windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing, snorkelling and jet skiing. Many beaches have a good selection of equipment for hire.
Catamaran
cruises
A day spent sailing along the rugged and picturesque coastline on one of the "cats of St. Kitts" is a perfect introduction to the island - and probably the best way to enjoy snorkelling. A typical cruise will include a stop in a secluded cove, where you can grab a mask and flippers to marvel at the marine life on one the many reefs off the south-west peninsula before the crew treat you to a delicious barbecue on a palm-fringed beach.
Climb the volcano
If you have energy to burn, then try taking
on the challenge of Mount Liamuiga and reach its summit, 3,792ft above sea
level. You have to be reasonably fit because this means a steep hike through
the rainforest and up the slopes of the dormant volcano. But when you reach
the top of the mountain you will be able to look down into into
the crater, with its bubbling hot springs, and be rewarded with spectacular
views across the island. Be prepared to get dirty and don't forget your camera.
Golf
Visitors to the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club can play on the championship course recently redesigned by Canadian Tom McBroom. The oceanfront fairways offer a unique tropical golfing experience: where else can you play two holes on the Caribbean Sea and three on the Atlantic Ocean?
Horse riding
whether you can ride, or would like to learn, this is a unique way to see some of the most beautiful parts of the island. Swing into the saddle and take a trek through fields of sugar cane, over gentle hills, into the rainforest or along the beach.
Birdwatching
Like many Caribbean islands, St. Kitts is home to a wide range of tropical birds you will be unlikely to see anywhere else in the world, so this is an opportunity not to be missed. Many exotic species are to be found in the thick rainforests on the mountain ranges, so a guided trek is highly recommended.
Tennis
Some of the plantation houses and beach resorts have tennis courts for clients to use. Ask our office for details.
